Once the Registrar of Deeds signs the transfer then you legally own the property. After registration, a copy of the title deed (or deed of transfer) is kept at the Deeds Office closest to the property. For instance, if the property is in Welkom, then the Bloemfontein Deeds Office will keep a copy, if the property is in Durban, then the Pietermaritzburg Deeds Office will keep a copy.
